Metrics & Standards roundup: PUE, security and government accreditations
Vantage Data Centers' V2 facility

Vantage Data Centers in the US said its Santa Clara data center V2 has recorded a PUE of 1.12. This reading makes the data center one of the worlds’ most efficient, according to Vantage Data Centers CEO Jim Trout.

The data center features an advanced mechanical and electrical design and uses outside air cooling and minimizes power loss using high voltage lines running from a substation to under its floor.

The 73,4000 sq ft 9MW data center, built for colocation, is also being considered for a LEED Platinum rating.

Sovereign Business Integration receives security certification

UK-based Sovereign Business Integration received its International Organisation for Standardisation/International Electrotechnical Commission 27001:2005 certification for information security at its data center and colocation operations.

The standards covers the implementation, management and maintenance of information security management systems and networks in the case of events such as computer-assisted fraud, espionage, sabotage, vandalism, fire and flood.

To achieve the standard Sovereign had to undergo risk assessments, implement an information security management system, introduce the role of a quality and information security manager and make all employees aware of security procedures and identify ways to continually improve these processes and procedures.

Virtustream receives government accreditation

Virtustream’s Vienna data center in Virginia has received FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) authorization and accreditation for its security and performance of enterprise-class cloud solutions.

The certification is widely recognized by the US Federal Government for contractors providing services requiring data security and access. Virtustream was also placed on the list of preferred suppliers for the UK Government’s infrastructure as a service and cloud service contracts, otherwise known as G-Cloud.
